A reader looking up a radon contractor should not have to wonder what a website is storing on their device, so this page gives a plain inventory for York PA Radon Pros (https://yorkparadonpros.com). It sits alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms & Conditions.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. It lets the site, or a third party whose content is shown on the site, recognize your browser again, either for the rest of your visit or for a set period afterward.
Which cookies does the site itself set?
Without your consent, only strictly necessary ones. The site runs on WordPress and has no visitor accounts, no comments, and no shopping features, so an ordinary visit involves very few.
Your cookie banner choice. When you respond to the consent banner, a cookie records your answer so that the banner does not reappear on every page. It typically lasts between six and twelve months, after which you will be asked again.
Security cookies. Our hosting provider’s security systems may set a short-lived cookie when they need to confirm that a visitor is a person and not an automated bot. It expires within hours or at the end of your session.
Administrator cookies. WordPress sets login and session cookies for the people who maintain the site. They apply only to administrators who sign in, and ordinary visitors never receive them.
Are there analytics cookies?
Yes, if you accept them. We use Google Analytics 4 to see, in aggregate, how the site is used: which pages are read, how visitors arrive, and how often they click through to the companies we list. Google Analytics works by setting cookies that distinguish one browser from another. They do not contain your name or email address, and we do not use them to identify you.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor’s browser from another | Up to 2 years |
_ga_ followed by a container ID | Google Analytics | Maintains the state of your visit, such as when a session starts and ends | Up to 2 years |
These cookies are held back until you accept analytics in the consent banner. If you decline, Google Analytics does not run and neither cookie is set. We have not enabled Google’s advertising features, Google Signals, or ad personalization, so these cookies are not used to show you ads.
Are there advertising cookies?
No. The site carries no advertising network, has no affiliate tracking, and uses no marketing pixels. None of those categories of cookie is set.
Which cookies come from third parties?
Some pages include a video hosted by YouTube or a map from Google Maps. Both services belong to Google. When an embed loads, Google may set its own cookies on your device and read cookies it has set before. Google uses them to remember preferences, measure usage of its services, protect against abuse, and, depending on your Google settings, personalize what it shows you. Their lifetimes range from a single browser session to many months. We do not control these cookies and cannot read them. Google explains them in How Google uses cookies and in the Google Privacy Policy.
These embeds are held back until you accept them in the consent banner. If you decline, you will see a placeholder where the video or map would be, and the business’s address and phone number remain available as plain text on the listing.
How can you control cookies?
Start with the consent banner, where you can accept or decline analytics and third-party embeds separately, and change your mind later.
To stop Google Analytics on every website you visit, not only this one, Google offers the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Your browser gives you broader control. In Chrome, look under Settings, then Privacy and security. In Firefox, look under Settings, then Privacy & Security. In Safari, look under Settings, then Privacy (on an iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app and choose Safari). In Edge, look under Settings, then Cookies and site permissions. Menus move around between versions, so your browser’s own help pages are the final word. Most browsers also let you delete cookies already stored and browse in a private mode that discards them when you close the window.
What happens if you block them?
The articles and directory will still work. Google Analytics will not run, embedded videos and maps will not load, and the consent banner may reappear on each visit because the site cannot remember your answer.
Will this list change?
If we add a feature that sets a new cookie, such as an advertising service or another embedded tool, this inventory will be updated before or when the change goes live, and the date above will change with it.
